In my second year at school, I picked up a new hobby: rug making. I quickly taught myself how to use a tufting gun and began experimenting. For this rug, I set out to translate a graphic collage I had made into a tactile object. I brought together a bunch of imagery that showed the mixed feelings a first date can awake in someone. The idea of a first date was in this way turned into a fatal last dinner. This was done by secret objects such as guns and the idea of time running out, flowers drying up, silence becomes loud.
It was exciting to bring a digital idea to life in a physical form, something other than a book or a poster. Working with a new medium was eye-opening, and tufting is still something I enjoy doing whenever I find the time. I especially love combining typographic elements with the grid-like logic found in textile design.
